Ministries at Trinity in the Fields
Though we may be small in number, we have many active ministries at Trinity in the Fields. All members are encouraged to participate in ministries that operate within the church and outside its walls as well. Here at Trinity in the Fields, there is no “dude ranch” mentality, where worshipers simply sit and wait for the next form of entertainment. Rather, we like to think of ourselves more as working farm, where everyone has a job and purpose ordained by God. These ministries include:
Acolytes
As part of our obligation to train up our children in the knowledge and love of God, school age children are all afforded the opportunity to serve as acolytes for Sunday worship services. Their duties include the lighting of candles to begin worship, carrying the processional cross and assisting the deacon with the setting of the table at Holy Communion.
Altar Guild
Altar Guild members are responsible for preparing the altar for Holy Communion, for special worship services, and, when requested, for weddings and funerals. Duties include care and cleaning of the Eucharistic vessels and linens, preparing the bread and wine and filling the candles with oil.
Children’s Church
Children’s Church (or Sunday school) at Trinity in the Fields serves to form our children in the Christian faith by teaching them weekly bible lessons. We have numerous volunteer teachers who serve our kids weekly, as we believe it is imperative that we, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Children’s Church meets during the first part of our worship service. Participants then return to the worship service for Holy Communion.
Community Outreach
Reaching out to the people of our community to provide them with fellowship and community in Christ’s name is a major focus at Trinity in the Fields. We have several major community events throughout the year:
Harvest Bazaar — Our annual Harvest Bazaar is a community-based festival organized by volunteers at Trinity in the Fields. We are focused on selling arts and crafts to the community at a weekend event each fall. All proceeds from the event purchase Thanksgiving dinners for the needy in our community.
Rogation Sunday — is the traditional Anglican service whereby farmers’ fields and seeds are blessed. The service takes place at the home of one of our farmer members. Afterwards, we gather for a barbecue picnic.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper — is the feast — known as Mardi Gras in New Orleans — prior to the beginning of Lent. Volunteers traditionally cook pancakes and sausages for people in our community.
Seder Meal — is the traditional Passover Meal eaten by Jews throughout the world each year. We invite everyone to participate in this meaningful liturgy and meal, as it is a wonderful way to evangelize the community, as it becomes obvious as we process through the service that Jesus is indeed the Passover lamb!
Daughters of the Holy Cross
The Daughters of the Holy Cross is an Order of women committed to making disciples and serving Jesus through our Rule of Life: prayer, service, study and evangelism. Daughters undergird the church by praying for the clergy, staff and congregation as well as studying the Word of God to grow in their faith.
Flowers
The flower ministry exists to beautify our church as we worship the Lord in the beauty of all holiness. Members of this ministry prepare fresh flower arrangements for church services each Sunday. Parishioners are given the opportunity to donate the flowers in memory or honor loved ones.
Hospitality
Our hospitality ministries organize receptions, brunches, luncheons, suppers and potlucks for various occasions throughout the year, including the Bishop’s visit, Rogation Sunday, Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, Back-to-School Kick-Off and Harvest Sunday.
Lectors
Lay persons serve as readers each week, reading from the Old Testament, Psalms and Epistles during the worship service. This is an integral ministry at Trinity in the Fields, as we believe that in scripture lies all things necessary for salvation.
Men’s Ministries
The men’s ministries at Trinity in the Fields focus around fellowship and activities for the men in our church. Whether it is gathering for a steak dinner, shooting trap and skeet or even the occasional afternoon hunting outing, the men at Trinity in the Fields are actively involved in the life of the church.
Missions
Trinity in the Fields has supported numerous overseas missionaries throughout the years by providing financial, prayer and pastoral assistance. Currently most of our support goes to missionaries with Anglican Frontier Missions, whose purpose is to “plant biblically-based, multiplying, indigenous churches and dioceses where the church is not yet established, among the 3 billion people and 7,000 unreached people groups still waiting to hear the gospel for the very first time.” We also hold a regular “mission round-table” discussion group to assist our own members who believe God may be calling them into long-term overseas mission, assisting them to discern their calling.
Outreach/Benevolence
Our outreach ministries assist a number of local ministries with financial, physical and volunteer support. These ministries include:
Hope House Ministries — a local food bank that assists the hungry in Crittenden County, where nearly 30 percent of all people live below the poverty line.
Families in Transition — a safe home for women and children who have been living in abusive situations.
Eighth Street Mission for Jesus Christ — which provides a number of services for the needy in Crittenden County, including temporary shelter for the homeless, a long-term addiction recovery program, healthcare/counseling, educational/occupational training and other vital human services.
Home Visiting Services — serves young mothers in crisis in Crittenden County who need teaching and assistance in the every-day grind of raising children without normal support networks.
Hope of the Delta — offers free, confidential health care to ensure that women, men, students, and families have a safe place to turn when facing pregnancy decisions, making sexual health choices, and seeking emotional healing from pregnancy loss, abortion or miscarriage.
Prayer Ministry
Members of the prayer ministry are assigned the responsibility of praying throughout the church prior to worship services, praying with all participating in the service before church and then offering intercessory prayers for those in need after Holy Communion.
Small Group Ministries
On Wednesday nights, a number of small groups meet in various neighborhoods throughout our community to fellowship and study the Bible. Groups meet in the homes of various members for dinner, and teaching is lay-led. Being a member of a small group is strongly encouraged as one our core values is to learn what it means to be like Jesus.
Ushers
Ushers ensure that everyone has a bulletin every Sunday morning, as well as assisting with the offertory and Holy Communion.
Women’s Ministries
The women of Trinity in the Fields have a full complement of activities with which to participate. Dining out in Marion, Wilson or Memphis restaurants is a favorite activity; however, the ladies also participate in various activities, such as arts and crafts and flower arranging workshops as well as visits to local artisans’ workshops. These are wonderful opportunities for fellowship and outreach for our community.
